Overview

A fantastic weekend canoeing and camping along the River Medway in the Kent countryside. You will enjoy 2 great days canoeing giving you a chance to relax whist being challenged as you paddle 18 miles from Tonbridge to Allington Lock along one of Kent’s best kept secrets. This trip is suitable for anyone no matter what your level of experience and is sure to give you a taste for canoeing and adventure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day One

10:00 Meet at Rock UK Adventure Centre, Carroty Wood. Convoy to river put in. Unload boats, change and prepare for your journey
11:30 Canoe 6 miles down river arriving at camp before sunset
16:30 Pitch tents, cook and eat a meal together and pop down to the pub to unwind and enjoy a relaxing evening

Day Two

08:00 Have breakfast, make a packed lunch, break camp and set off down river again. Today will really challenge you as you canoe 12 miles to the end of the non-tidal section of the Medway
16:00 Expected arrival at Allington Lock. We will meet our transport which will you take you back to your cars at Carroty Wood
17:00 Your journey home

Important Information

  • We will meet at Carroty Wood and drive in convoy to the start of the river
  • All specialist canoeing equipment will be provided
  • Instructors will provide all necessary instruction and guiding to suit ability levels ensuring everyone enjoys their weekend
  • The river is a gentle grade 1 however at high water levels there are additional challenges as the flow increases. There are several locks which need to be portaged and a couple of weirs that we may be able to paddle
  • The camp area is ideally situated close to the riverbank with access to toilets and there is a pub nearby
  • You will need to provide your own camping & cooking equipment, food for lunches, dinner and breakfast. Bring a waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothing, a change of clothing and a day sack. Wetsuits are not essential but are very useful in the event of a capsize.
